Sophie Smith is a painter and poet based in the United Kingdom. They create paintings of an Abstract Expressionist manner, often using fluid oil paint gestures to evoke emotive responses. Their poetry practice informs and works alongside paintings, to create works which attempt to capture the fleetingness of thought. They explore philosophical questioning of the materiality of oil paint as a means of investigating phenomenological concepts that make the intangible, tangible.  It is precisely the impossibility of the tasks proposed by the artist that ignites fascination with this subject matter.

They co-created the online Art Collective
